Cocktails

A Cocktail is a mixed drink, usually containing different types of liquor and flavourings.  There are many different versions of the origin of the word cocktail, but what is definite is that the modern cocktail became popular during the prohibition in the United States.

Used mostly as a way of masking the taste of bootlegged alcohol, the bartenders at the speakeasy would mix the poor quality spirits with other ingredients, both alcoholic and non alcoholic to try and fool the authorities into thinking it was legal.

Until the 1970's, cocktails in the UK were usually made with Gin, Whisky or Rum, and less commonly Vodka. From then on the popularity of Vodka cocktails has soared along with the introduction of cocktail spirits from further afield such as Cachaca from Brazil and Sambuca from Italy.

We have realised that our customers are becoming increasingly adventurous and looking for something "a little different" from the straight on-the-rocks drinks.

Cocktails have filled this need and become the perfect alternative as customers look to trade up from simple mixed drinks.

This provides us with a great opportunity to expand our drinks offering and benefit from consumers' interest in more 'exotic' drinks
